– London Marathon Training Is A Big Commitment-
Training for the London Marathon is a massive commitment and expense, especially if others are counting on you for sponsorship etc. For the past 5 years we have helped the majority of clients who have suffered injuries training for London complete the Marathon. As is life, there will be always be one or two injuries that are either too severe, happen too close to the race day or both. However for the majority we have been able to help them get out of pain and regain their movement capacity to complete the race. This year however, we are attempting to avoid this happening again by the launch of our London Marathon Package. When we start pre season with Huddersfield Giants and Halifax Rugby League Clubs we perform a movement screen on every player. From here we then design an individual injury prevention program for each player. That player will then undergo a gruelling pre season training program where they will receive expert hands on soft tissue techniques and movement/stretching techniques to ensure they can endure the load and volume placed on their bodies. These players will also perform some key pre training movement markers to ensure each day they are safe and ready to train. We get these players through some insane training intensities and loads injury free.

Before we start worrying about muscles, we will get your breathing pattern corrected. This is essential in order to allow your muscles to worry about their own jobs. This will have the added benefit of improving your ability to breathe more efficiently when the going gets tough. These techniques will unconsciously improve your ability to sleep better, relax and give your nervous system a chance to reset and function properly with the increased training load.
Foam rolling is an increasingly popular therapy however done incorrectly will have no benefit whatsoever. We have found that 99% of people who come into our clinic are making the same big mistake when it comes to foam rolling. We will show you how to get the most out of your foam rolling sessions with 2 simple changes. This video library also comes with an e book you can download and have at your side for reference throughout your training.
We spend so much time sitting or stuck in the same positions throughout the day, especially the day after tough run, that sometimes our nerves, muscles and ligaments get bogged down and lose the ability to slide and move independently. Nerves supply the power to muscles and their full function is essential if you are to move better and continue to log those miles. Unfortunately most people we see in the clinic perform common weight training exercises incorrectly despite their background and experience and eventually end up in our clinic in pain. Small changes and coaching cues can make a massive difference to your gym programs. In the 4 months we will be working with you, we cover key exercises you can master to get the most out of your workouts if you decide to you want to also add weight training into your program. Don’t waste a second doing an exercise that won’t help you on your big day.
The core is a popular topic at the moment. We think differently to most about how the core should be trained. We believe it should be trained as part of the whole system rather than a separate entity. The core is fundament to the way your body functions. Whether you are picking your child, lifting something out of your car, pulling or twisting or weightlifting, your core is doing the same job. We have a structured process we use to progress our core training with our elite athletes. You will receive the exact same exercise progressions and advice we give elite athletes in this 16 week core training program to prepare you for your big day.
We give you 4 key markers and will train you in December in person exactly how to do these 4 key movements. These movements will take 15 seconds each to do before a run yet will give you so much information about what you need to do to warm up before this particular run. You will have access to 4 key pre run screens, to ensure your first step every run is that of quality and efficiency, hence decreasing your risk of injury.
You will be invited to our private ProSport Physio London Marathon 2016 Group where you have the opportunity to interact with the other members in the group and ask any questions about the content or concerns/guidance regarding any issues between sessions that we see you.

I can’t recommend Pro Sport highly enough. I’m an endurance runner, and have suffered my fair share of injuries over the last couple of years. These have largely been indirectly caused by poor pronation of my left foot – I had to have a bone fusion many years ago after breaking my foot in a car accident. The approaches Pro Sport use in terms of diagnosis and treatment are different to any other physiotherapist I’ve ever seen, and now I would not go anywhere else. They never drag out treatments by prolonging the number of sessions and aim to treat you as speedily and effectively as possible with the minimum number of repeat visits. “I’d been struggling for the best part of a year with what I (and my old physio) thought was a damaged hamstring.
