– London Marathon Training Is A Big Commitment-
Training for the London Marathon is a massive commitment and expense, especially if others are counting on you for sponsorship etc. For the past 5 years we have helped the majority of clients who have suffered injuries training for London complete the Marathon. As is life, there will be always be one or two injuries that are either too severe, happen too close to the race day or both. However for the majority we have been able to help them get out of pain and regain their movement capacity to complete the race. This year however, we are attempting to avoid this happening again by the launch of our London Marathon Package. When we start pre season with Huddersfield Giants and Halifax Rugby League Clubs we perform a movement screen on every player. From here we then design an individual injury prevention program for each player. That player will then undergo a gruelling pre season training program where they will receive expert hands on soft tissue techniques and movement/stretching techniques to ensure they can endure the load and volume placed on their bodies. These players will also perform some key pre training movement markers to ensure each day they are safe and ready to train. We get these players through some insane training intensities and loads injury free.
YES, you are now able to access our exact blueprint that we use for the toughest of the tough training programs to enable you to enjoy your training experience and most importantly enjoy your big day and allow you to achieve your true time.
Before we start worrying about muscles, we will get your breathing pattern corrected. This is essential in order to allow your muscles to worry about their own jobs. This will have the added benefit of improving your ability to breathe more efficiently when the going gets tough. These techniques will unconsciously improve your ability to sleep better, relax and give your nervous system a chance to reset and function properly with the increased training load.
Foam rolling is an increasingly popular therapy however done incorrectly will have no benefit whatsoever. We have found that 99% of people who come into our clinic are making the same big mistake when it comes to foam rolling. We will show you how to get the most out of your foam rolling sessions with 2 simple changes. This video library also comes with an e book you can download and have at your side for reference throughout your training.
We spend so much time sitting or stuck in the same positions throughout the day, especially the day after tough run, that sometimes our nerves, muscles and ligaments get bogged down and lose the ability to slide and move independently. Nerves supply the power to muscles and their full function is essential if you are to move better and continue to log those miles. In this video library and accompanying book, we show you how to mobilise the key nerves and muscles effectively. The perfect recovery protocol at your fingertips after tough runs or a great session to do on days off in front of the television.
Unfortunately most people we see in the clinic perform common weight training exercises incorrectly despite their background and experience and eventually end up in our clinic in pain. Small changes and coaching cues can make a massive difference to your gym programs. In the 4 months we will be working with you, we cover key exercises you can master to get the most out of your workouts if you decide to you want to also add weight training into your program. Don’t waste a second doing an exercise that won’t help you on your big day.
The core is a popular topic at the moment. We think differently to most about how the core should be trained. We believe it should be trained as part of the whole system rather than a separate entity. The core is fundament to the way your body functions. Whether you are picking your child, lifting something out of your car, pulling or twisting or weightlifting, your core is doing the same job. We have a structured process we use to progress our core training with our elite athletes. You will receive the exact same exercise progressions and advice we give elite athletes in this 16 week core training program to prepare you for your big day.
We give you 4 key markers and will train you in December in person exactly how to do these 4 key movements. These movements will take 15 seconds each to do before a run yet will give you so much information about what you need to do to warm up before this particular run. You will have access to 4 key pre run screens, to ensure your first step every run is that of quality and efficiency, hence decreasing your risk of injury.
You will be invited to our private ProSport Physio London Marathon 2015 Group where you have the opportunity to interact with the other members in the group and ask any questions about the content or concerns/guidance regarding any issues between sessions that we see you.
“I ran 4 Marathons in 4 Weeks for the Laura Crane Trust Charity Huddersfield with the help of PRoSport Physiotherapy Huddersfield. They have a unique approach with great hands on treatment. I would highly recommend them to anyone for both Sports Massage or anyone in pain!” Keith Senior, Rugby League Legend
“I had an amazing experience with prosport – after 18mths of treatment with another Physio I really thought my knee injury would never get fixed. Dave looked at everything & fixed the mechanics starting with my feet and working up through my hips & eventually even into my throat – it was wierd but so advanced and worked amazingly well – I would highly recommend prosport for thinking outside of the box and being very cutting edge!” Victoria, Huddersfield
I can’t recommend Pro Sport highly enough. I’m an endurance runner, and have suffered my fair share of injuries over the last couple of years. These have largely been indirectly caused by poor pronation of my left foot – I had to have a bone fusion many years ago after breaking my foot in a car accident. The approaches Pro Sport use in terms of diagnosis and treatment are different to any other physiotherapist I’ve ever seen, and now I would not go anywhere else. They never drag out treatments by prolonging the number of sessions and aim to treat you as speedily and effectively as possible with the minimum number of repeat visits. I also find the video clips of recommended rehab exercises really useful. But perhaps most of all, they give me confidence that my fused foot is fine for running and with the right exercises will not cause me problems. They always encourage me that I will overcome injuries and setbacks and can learn from them and become stronger. Since my first treatment by the team I’ve knocked minutes off my times. And after my most recent setback (a stress fracture) Dave has inspired me and encouraged me so much, when I was doubting myself and seriously wondering if I’d ever be able to run again. Now I’m training again and loving it and believing in myself. It takes a big leap for me to trust someone when they say that the pain is temporary and will be fine – but every time I’ve put my trust in Dave and his team they’ve been spot on.Without Dave’s help, rehab prescription and encouragement I would not be where I am now, building my fitness back up, running more efficiently than ever and looking forward to my next marathon.” Lucy, Holmfirth
“I’d been struggling for the best part of a year with what I (and my old physio) thought was a damaged hamstring. I’d heard about Pro Sport and read about their Soft Tissue Release Techniques and thought I’d nothing to lose by trying a new approach. Thank goodness I did….. Darragh Sheehy correctly identified I actually had a partially trapped Sciatic nerve and set about “releasing” it…. That’s another way of saying pain…..but it really is “no pain, no gain”. After one session I left feeling considerably better. I ran at the weekend with a huge grin on my face……I was thinking “I’m back!” A few sessions later and following Darragh’s exercise regime I’d improved again and within a few months had a new 5k PB.” Mark, Huddersfield
“I suffered with a few minor injuries with my knee in the build up to the 2014 London Marathon, but once again Dave was able to keep me going through the training and I was able to complete the Marathon in just under 5 hours. I had absolutely no pain in the knee during the run! In 2011, I completed my first London Marathon. I could hardly walk a week before but with the help of ProSport Physiotherapy, I finished the race with no problem” Fran, Huddersfield
“Just thought i would drop you a line to let you know how im getting on with the stretches and the core work that you suggested. I have been doing these for around an hour to an hour and a half each day since i saw you, the difference i have found is massive. Its hard to explain how i feel whilst running and cycling now, it just feels like my body is more planted. The cyclo cross is finished now, i done my first fell race today on only six running sessions maybe not the best idea in the world however because of the excersises i have been doing my body felt stronger than it ever has. I have no technique at running downhill and would normally end up with a tight back doing that type of race where as this time no tightness. Thanks for all your help and advice” Kenny, County Durham
“ProSport Physiotherapy are my first port of call for niggles or twinges and an early booking could well prevent an injury or similar developing into something much bigger. They provide quality, individual and caring treatment and support plus they do not have you going back for treatment any longer than you need to and the exercise video links are excellent too. So a huge thank you to ProSport Physiotherapy Huddersfield who have helped me on more than one occasion. The first being to sort out my Achilles problem just a few weeks before my first triathlon in 2013 – their treatment and support helped me make it to both the start and finish lines in one piece and do several more events afterwards.” Jane, Halifax
