How To Foam Roll Correctly For Knee Pain Relief

Foam rolling for knee pain relief is more and more common now a days however we see this done incorrectly in the clinic when patients first come to see us! In this short video we take you through a clip from our patient exercise library outlining an effective way to get the particular fibres that need the stimulus the most! However please DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME STRETCHING THE IT BAND! It cannot stretch as it has the same mechanical properties as steel! The areas under and around it are actually the outside quadriceps muscle called the vastus lateralis.

The IT band will not stretch no matter how much force you apply to it!

Focusing on the structures around the IT band will provide a lot more relief! Sometimes these structures are chronically bogged down and not sliding independently to each other, along with the vastus lateralis not sliding independently of the hamstrings and other quadriceps muscles as you can see from the different layers below!
